Life as a Humanities Student: And all the weekly 'shinanigans'. (week 4)
This week has had some great moments. While Emmanuel Entee has been speaking on International Relations, I look at the base here at YWAM Worcester and see such a melting pot of cultures. It is such a blessing to have so many cultures and languages surrounding me, and I am blessed to have people to teach me more about cross-cultural communication and understanding one another. 2 funny moments this week in particular I will never forget.
I was chatting with some friends, who are a few of the ESL (English Second Language) students, this group just happened to be all Brazilian men, lol, and one said to me "We like you because you are God's wife". And I was a bit puzzled and also amused, "You like me because I'm God's wife?" I asked. And two others spoke up and said 'Yes'. A few seconds passed and then one said "no", and then a quick conversation in Portuguese followed by which one of them stated for all of them... "We like you because you are a woman of God", and then we all broke out into laughter.
Another funny moment this week was seeing a mix of cultures, including a number of South Africans and other Africans, all learning a Scottish Folk Dance. And we have this stereotype that Africans can dance, and while I still hold that pre-supposition to be generally true, I think it depends on the style. :) because this was definitely amusing to watch. And then I got pulled into it as well by a South African friend, and we had a blast, laughing and running into people as we quickly would try to perform the steps and switch partners at the same time.
So thanks to my two friends from Kona for facilitating such a fun time.
